Suburbs

The luxurious royal residences are situated in the picturesque suburbs of Saint Petersburg. The amazing palace, fountain and park ensembles, created by the best architects and artists of that time, have been recently restored and demonstrate all the glory and splendor of Imperial Russia of the 18 - 19th century. Such small towns as Gatchina, Peterhof, Pavlovsk are world-famous and attract thousands of tourists annually.
Gatchina
The cozy and picturesque town of Gatchina is situated 45 km to the south from Saint Petersburg. Gatchina sights amazed contemporaries with its beauty. The Gatchinka River flowing between low hills, the little lakes, the groves and the forest, as well as transparent Silver Lake create fantastic view. Even the climate in Gatchina differs from that in Saint Petersburg.

Pushkin (Tsarskoe Selo)
Pushkin is a town to the south from Saint Petersburg. Originally it was called Tsarskoe Selo. It was the main summer residence of the royal family, hence the name (Tsarskoe Selo means tsars' village). The landmark of Tsarskoe Selo is the Catherine palace, featuring splendid interiors, designed by eminent architects Rastrelli, Cameron, Stasov and Monighetti.

Pavlovsk
The town of Pavlovsk, which is famous for its palace and park ensemble, is located 26 kilometers to the south of Saint Petersburg. Dating from the late 18th to the 19th century, Pavlovsk was a summer residence of the Russian emperor Paul I and his family. Its architects were amongst the greatest of the period: Cameron, Brenna, Quarenghi, Voronikhin and Rossi.

Peterhof
The world-famous palace, fountain and park ensemble of Peterhof is an outstanding landmark of Russian artistic culture of the 18th-19th centuries. Founded in the very beginning of the 18th century by Emperor Peter the Great Peterhof was intended to become the most splendid official royal summer residence. Credit for its creation should go to a great number of eminent architects, artists, and anonymous folk craftsmen.

Lomonosov - Oranienbaum
At the beginning of the 18th century the lands of Lomonosov, which used to be called Oranienbaum, were presented to Count Alexander Menshikov by Tsar Peter I. Today Oranienbaum is the state museum-preserve and, in spite the restoration works are still in process, the palace and park ensemble is an attractive sight for the citizens of Saint Petersburg and the tourists.
